Puzzle Piece:
Your Name
Dear Parents/Guardians,
On Tuesday,
November 21 students will begin to present their puzzle piece on their name.
This program is designed to support the Social Studies curriculum and assist
the children with exploring the general outcomes “I am Unique” and “I Belong”.
Each day one or two students in the class will bring their puzzle and present
it to their classmates. This student will share a personal story about their
name. The topic will be introduced in class and students will receive a paper puzzle
piece to take home to work on. The children are being asked to learn about
their name. Please discuss the following questions with your child and help
them record their/your ideas, thoughts and pictures on the puzzle piece.
What is your full name?
1) Who named me?
2) Am I named after
anyone 3) Does my name have a special meaning? 4) Do I go by any other names? 5)
Do I have a nickname?
Any other information about my name
The
puzzle piece is being sent home today, but your child may not present for a
month or so. Please keep the puzzle piece in a safe place. The children can
draw, colour, cut out pictures, use photos, etc. to decorate their puzzle
piece. A new schedule will be posted below, with updates. This only affects a few students. This schedule will let you know when your
child will present their puzzle piece. Their is also an example of a puzzle piece that I presented on Thursday to the students. Please practice
presenting with your child and ensure that your child is prepared to present on
their given day. Those students who were not at school on Thursday will be given a paper puzzle piece next week.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.
Thank you for your support,
Mr. Straiton
